Baptism – Parent Requirements
Steps necessary to schedule a baptism:
1. Must be registered for some months and involved in the life of the parish; and
2. Paperwork for the godparents must be completed (listed below); and
3. Attend the baptism class; and
4. Schedule the baptism
Baptism - Godparent Requirements
Canon law defines the requirements for the office of godparent, and these need to be met in order that one may serve as a godparent at baptism:
1. Must have reached sixteen years of age
2. Must have been confirmed
3. Must have made their first Communion
4. Must be living and practicing the Catholic faith
5. Must not have any impediment to keep them from this role, such as being married outside the Church, or living in sin
To facilitate the preparation for baptism, couples expecting a child may begin the process by contacting the office to begin to gather the needed information and paperwork:
1. Letter from the current parish of each godparent stating that s/he is an active and practicing Catholic
2. A current baptismal certificate, confirming the above required sacraments
Once the paperwork is completed, and only once the paperwork is completed, then the couple will attend the cluster’s baptism class taught by our permanent deacon, the Rev. Mr. William Kolarik.
After the class has been attended, and if the couple has already had the baby, the baptism can be scheduled with Deacon Bill at the baptism class.
As we can, we will schedule individual family baptisms as opposed to many families at one time.
Contact Ginny Schade at (810) 384-1338 x21 to begin the preparation to baptize your child.
Note: If an unbaptized child is in danger of death, please call Father immediately. He will come at once and baptize your baby. You may reach him at (810) 384-1338, and press #1 for an emergency.
