Ministers of Faith Formation

The success of our cluster Faith Formation depends largely on dedicated adults willing to share their faith.  All of us:  lay person and clergy, professionals and non-professionals are in this together.  Can we accept God’s invitation to make disciples of all?

The following is a list of the different ministries with a short job description.   All adult volunteers must take Protecting God’s Children, a program designed to provide child sexual abuse awareness for adults. Information on this program and registration information may be found at their website, VIRTUS Online. All youth under the age of 18 who volunteer take a similar workshop, Called to Serve.

Catechist  Elementary and middle school students need the leadership of Christian adults who will guide them as they grow in their faith.  A Catechist is required to be a fully initiated member of the Church and a worshiping person of faith.  Some additional qualities are:  leadership, storytelling, good listener, sense of humor, and most important, a desire to share your faith with others.  Catechist training is provided to build your confidence and knowledge.  Give Brenda Heilig a call if interested.

Children’s Liturgy Leader – Children old enough to engage with Scripture stories but who are not yet obliged  to participate in the Eucharistic celebration need adult leaders to present a special Liturgy of the Word during our weekly Mass. This practice is more resonant of catechesis which prepares them for full participation later and opens them to the treasures of Scripture.  The witness of adult believers can have a great effect upon the children. Adult leaders can in turn benefit spiritually from experiencing the part that the children have within the Christian community.

Youth Minister  Offer twice a month meetings/activities/service opportunities October thru April. Work closely and plan activities with Faith Formation office; keep Director informed of all activities. For more information on Youth Ministry, visit our Youth Ministry page.

Catechist for Adults – Group faith discussion and prayer leaders are needed as well as individuals with a gift for organizing fellowship events. Adult catechists are not so much teachers as facilitators that engage groups in discussion and sharing of equals so that all who participate may grow in their faith.

RCIA Sponsor  An RCIA Sponsor is a fully initiated member of the Catholic church willing to be a friend, witness, companion and guide for a person seeking to become a member of the Catholic Church.  A sponsor is not expected to teach but rather walk with the person who is seeking full initiation while on their faith journey.  Although this is the responsibility of the whole parish cluster community, the sponsor represents the community in a personal and direct way.

Education Commission Member   Any person who is willing to help with developing, promoting and evaluating the various faith formation programs of the cluster can become a member.
